Home Decor with Altenew
Welcome back to my Studio!
Altenew Home Decor Contest…
Today I’m super excited to share a double mixed media canvas art project that I created for Altenew’s Home Decor Contest.
I love to decorate canvas in many different ways, using different mediums. They can be so much fun to create, and very inspiring once finished. The thought of it always pushes my creativity.
So, when I saw that Altenew was holding a Home Decor Contest, I was definitely in!
I started by prepping my canvases with a titanium white, and light sand colored acrylics, which believe it or not, I painted with my fingers! SO FUN! Then I distressed the edges with oxide ink.
I textured the canvases with texture paste on Altenew’s Classy Stripes Stencil for the top canvas and textured the Altenew’s Splatter Stencil on the bottom canvas.
I also spattered white ink over both canvases.
Stamping and Waiting…
While I was waiting for my canvases to dry, I stamped and layered several flowers, blooms, and leaves, in coordinating colors, from Altenew’s Beautiful Day Stamp Set and die cut them out.
Once I had all my flowers stamped and cut, I decided to die cut several more leaves and palms, from White Cardstock and Kraft Cardstock, using Altenew’s Leaf Canopy Die Set and their Parlor Palm Die Set.
At first, I didn’t really like how the Kraft Cardstock looked without being stamped, so instead, I spattered them with white ink to tie them into the design.
I also stamped several blooms from the Beautiful Day Stamp Set on small pieces of white cardstock and then rolled them up to make little flutes to put under my flowers for dimension…well, and because I just like the look of them. How about you?
Placing and Arranging…
So now all of my elements are ready to be arranged on my two prepped canvases.
I started off by placing all my leaves around the two canvases, but I kept an open area on my top canvas for my sentiment, which I stamped from Altenew’s Strength Blooms Stamp set.
I first stamped my sentiment in black ink but…it was too stark against my soft color palette, so I went with gold ink. Now it looks like a great color match!
A Few Added Extras…
For my finishing touches, I added a little white twine, and frayed the edges slightly, which I tucked under a few of the stamped flowers on the top canvas.
I also added a butterfly, and several beautiful gold sequins in various spots on both canvases, and dotted one on the sentiment to draw some attention.
Connect, Display, & Enjoy…
I couldn’t just have two random canvases without a purpose, so I joined them together with a piece of white satin ribbon with gold polka dots.
Would you believe, I just happen to have that fabulous ribbon in my stash, just waiting to be used? Well it’s true! I did, and it actually was just the finishing touch I was looking for!
So there it is…my Altenew inspired Home Decor Canvas Art is finished and ready to go up on my wall…or better yet, I think I will give it to someone who needs a little encouragement today.
I hope I have inspired you today to try something new, or simply create something Fabulously Beautiful using Altenew. I’m sure you will be able to find something to spark your creativity!
