Layering & Masking with Altenew 3
Hello Friends!
Welcome back to my Studio!
Altenew AECP…
I’m so happy to be back again with another fabulously fun project for the Altenew’s Educator Program!
Painted Poppies…
Today I’m working with Altenew’s Painted Poppy Stamp Set. Poppies are just lovely aren’t they!
When we moved into our home it was winter so everything was dormant. We had no idea that come spring, our home would be surrounded by beautiful blooms. Among them were a bed of gorgeous red poppies. My neighbors would stop by to admire them. Some even asked for their seedlings.
So when I noticed that Altenew carried a Painted Poppy Stamp Set, I just had to indulge!
Focus…
For this project. I had to, not only layer my flowers, but I had to mask them as well.
I decided to work with a watercolors for my base this time, because I wanted to create a loose colorful background that gave the illusion of more flowers without distracting from my focal poppies.
Little did I know at the time, Altenew would come out with some more stunning watercolor colors and watercolor paint brushes a few days later.
Yes….my new brushes are on order! Hey! A girl can never have too many paint brushes!
So Let’s Get Started…
I started off by stamping a couple of poppies on hot press watercolor paper. It’s easier to get a crisp inked image on hot press paper, while still allowing for a beautiful watercolor imagery, because it has a smoother finish.
Once I had a few Poppies stamped in place on my watercolor paper, I stamped a few more Poppies on to masking paper and cut them out with very sharp detail scissors.
After covering my stamped images with the masking paper, I blotted a small pools of water and added color sparingly to create the loose background. I continued to add color until I was satisfied with the intensity.
Splish Splash…
I covered my Poppies with the masking paper once again, and splashed pink watercolor droplets, and white and black ink droplets to my background. I also dotted the center of my Poppies with white ink to give them a little something extra.
Butterflies are Free to Fly…
I couldn’t resist adding a few adorable Altenew Painted Butterflies. I stamped them on white card stock and die cut them out to place around the poppies.
Putting it all Together…
For my base, I cut a piece of textured black cardstock sized to 5×7. I offset a piece of white cardstock to the right to leave a wider border on the left side of my card.
I then mounted my watercolor panel on a sheet of double-sided adhesive and attached it to the white cardstock on my base.
A Touch of Bling…
I wanted add some bling to my card, so I added a few of Altenew’s gorgeous gold sequins to my watercolor panel, along with a couple pieces of their stunning gold washi tape to place along the left side of my card base and my image panel.
At this point I felt like my card still needed something more… so I decided to add black photo corners to the top left and lower right side of my card.
And with that, my card was finished.
I hope I have inspired you today to try something new, or simply create something Fabulously Beautiful using Altenew.Â
