Sending Holiday Hugs

Hello Friends…
Welcome back to my Studio! I’m so glad you joined me today!

Holly Reindeer Hugs…

Today I will be working with the “Holly Reindeer Hugs” Stamp Set, and coordinating Die Set, to create a soft winter Holiday card inspired by episode #189 of Craft Roulette. One of the super fun things about playing along with Craft Roulette is that you may find yourself creating cards/projects that you may never have without the challenge parameters.

Challenge Parameters…

The challenge parameters for this project are:

  • Project: A2 card
  • Element: Starts with an “H”
  • Colors: Forest Colors
  • Random: Postage Stamp or Mark

Card Project…

I cut and scored a piece of white card stock to create and A2 sized card (4.25″ x 5.5″)

Then I cut a piece of watercolor paper and dipped it in distressed oxide ink a few times to achieve varying hues of blue and green…keep in mind if you are trying this, the pale green hue faded quite a bit during the drying process. I used a heat gun to dry the ink in-between dips.

Once my inked panel was dry, I embossed it to give it some texture. I loved how it looked so much that I continued the texture by adding white ink splatter and tearing one side of the panel’s edge. Then I cut a strip of Kraft card stock and splattered it as well.

Starts with an “H”…

I pretty much covered this parameter using Holly Reindeer Hugs” Stamp Set. She has lots of Hair doesn’t she?! And did you catch her Holly Hair tie? Let’s not forget about the snowy Hillside or the Hearts!

I stamped my image on marker paper with black hybrid ink and colored it with Copic markers.

Oh and…my sentiment from the same set, also has two… “Sending Holiday Hugs”.

What’s in a Forest…

When you think of a forest, you might think of dark colors. Forests are so beautiful and actually have tons of rich colors hidden within them. I pulled out my favorite color combination for this precious, winter card.

Let’s have a look…

  • Blues in a forest are found in certain types of trees, like a Blue Spruce, flowing streams, and bright beautiful skies.
  • Green as in my holly, is an obvious choice found in trees, moss, and ground cover
  • Brown for tree trunks, falling leaves, dirt paths, picnic tables, directional signs, etc..
  • White in the clouds, a foggy morning, spotted birds, snow on the trees in the winter, white water ripples in streams, and the highlights from the sun peeking through the trees.

The challenges are really interpretive and no two cards are ever the same!

So Random…

A Postage Stamp is so random on this card isn’t it…but it really kind of works considering my sentiment says “Sending Holiday Hugs”. Another example of a card I may never have created if it weren’t for the Craft Roulette Parameters.

Finishing Touches…

I added a stitched snowy hillside, and a fluffy winter tree, which I die cut from white card stock. A few crystal enamel dots and my card was finished.
